The Story of Vic
Every once in a while a fox will come into us so tame we can only assume someone has had it as a pet and then just turned them out. Being unable to fend for themselves in their new hostile environment it doesn’t take them that long to get in to trouble.
Vic it would seem is one of these foxes. He was reported to us with a leg injury and getting soaking wet in a garden in Leyton, London on 25/9/99.
Reg who went out on the rescue was so surprised at this fox’s friendliness, once he had caught Vic, Vic just settled down in his arms.
Vic was taken to Forest Gate Veterinary practice where Billy & Lyndon checked the fox over. We requested that blood tests should be taken to test for Toxoplasmosis. Once this was ruled out Vic was brought up to us for observation.
Friendly was an understatement, you could just put your hand in a stroke him with no resistance at all.
Unsure as to what to do with Vic, we felt the best thing would be to get him in a larger enclosure to see how he reacted. This we have done, and early indications are that although friendly he dislikes any confinement so only time will tell with regards to any future plans.

Vic was successfully released and after a rather shaky start has become a regular visitor at meal times. He arrives each evening now and waits for his food before going off on his travels.

Vick still visits every night - 08/2003
