Yorkie:
Yorkie was found in a collapsed state by staff at a
local firm in the early hours of one morning. He was
taken to a vet in York who gave him antibiotics and
treated him for shock. Brian and Heather Drayton (Lincs
region) collected Yorkie from the vets the following day
and brought him over to us.
It was obvious as soon as he was taken out of the
carrier that he had a broken front leg and had also
damaged his pelvis. We immediately rushed him to our vet
Jenny, who examined him. Sadly, she confirmed our
suspicions. He was extremely dehydrated and suffering
with severe conjunctivitis.

He was X-rayed, treated with IV fluids and sedated.
Jenny operated immediately and planned to repair the leg
by pinning the break. As it turned out this was not
possible, so the broken bone fragments had to be wired
together. We collected Yorkie later that day and
continued to re-hydrate him and treat him daily with
antibiotics.
Almost two weeks later, little Yorkie is recovering
well. We are hopeful that his broken leg will stabilize
over the next few weeks.
Although we haven’t received the final invoice from the
vets, we expect the cost of treatment for Yorkie to be
several hundred pounds.
Update:
Unfortunately Yorkie's leg failed to heal and we were
left with a tough decision, we chose to amputate the leg
and hoped he would make a good recovery. Day's after a
successful operation Yorkie decided to escape - after
biting through 3mm heavy gauge fencing he made his bid
for freedom - with that sort of determination he should
have a good chance back in the wild.
